Often when people think of quitting their jobs they think about going into business for themselves and they use the skill they have to start a new venture.
All is working fine, money is pouring in, no more fucking stupid Boss to please or Blood sucking HR to answer to.
The person is on top of world how he is probably going down the right path.
SUDDENLY….He meets an unfortunate accident and is admitted to the hospital. Having broken his leg he is unable to go to work for his business for the next 2-3 months and that when he realizes that without him running around and doing work his business is ZERO. ZILCH. NADA.
And then realization hit him at the speed of a junkie doing coke from a strippers body that..
HIS BUSINESS WAS A FARCE.
Confused? let me explain.
The above person though pretty good at escaping the 9-5 jive is still fucked as he is not a BUSINESS OWNER. He is what we call as a FREELANCER.
Whats the difference you ask?
PRETTY FUCKING HUGE I SAY!
See when you are a freelancer you make money only when you work actively. A free lancer only makes money when he is actively working on some gig/ project ( there are of course exceptions but they are a few and rare).
A BUSINESS OWNER on the other hand is a different animal.
A business owner is the one who has set up some “systems”(they can be automated or human based) which do the work for him even if he is not around.
Example-If i am not around for 10-11 days then also my business will run itself due to the systems i have in place. Sure, the productivity may suffer around 10-15% but it is a whole lot better than having no income.
Let me repeat that.
HAVING A BUSINESS IS HAVING AUTO MATED SYSTEMS IN WORK WHICH WILL BRING INCOME TO YOU EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT PHYSICALLY PRESENT IN THE PLACE OF WORK DUE TO XYZ REASON.
BUSINESS MUST BE SCALABLE.
Cause if it is is not scalable then you will get fucked once you have some other pressing matters to attend to.
Another issue here is that due to the nature of the freelancer work it is not saleable also.
See, if a freelancer web developer decides to sell his so called “business”he will rarely find a good deal oe even a buyer in the first place.
CAUSE HE IS THE FUCKING BUSINESS. His whole income model is based on his ability to get new clients/ recurring clients based on HIS ABILITY. The moment he moves out of the picture, the income will drop down like a lead in water.
This is an important picture which needs to be cleared and hammered in brains of masses trying to get free from slavery.
SO, the next time you think you have found a great business check if it is really a business or freelancing disguised as business.
