A common thing I myself felt and encountered whilst leaving my job and thinking of starting a business is that somehow, I felt guilty that I am making my parents unhappy.
See I come from a small middle-class family and my folks expected me to complete my graduation and get a job somewhere.
But for various reasons I didn’t follow the path laid out in front of me….i went against the wishes of many people including my family.
Hear me out
MY PARENTS WERE VERY UNHAPPY THAT I HAD CHOSEN TO NOT FOLLOW THE REGULAR, SAFE PATH, GET A JOB AND HAD CHOSEN SOMETHING ELSE
Yes, I got called many names etc when I first started my work. Even my own parents have thrown me out couple times due to me going against their wishes. But fast forward and my parents are proud of me. When I started, I was called a dumb ass for leaving a secure job profile related degree and start my own shit. Now that has changed
One may say that by making my parents unhappy at the start I can now make them happier due to the perks I enjoy.
The main point of the post is that your happiness is most important. I knew I could never be happy in a job (even if my parents were happy). What follows is a vicious cycle when you do thing to make others happy.
Suppose I had done what made my parents happy and got a job. They would have been very happy but I would be extremely unhappy. This unhappiness will then start to spread around me affecting everyone close to me and in effect making my parents unhappy. A VERY BAD SCENARIO.
So it was better to let them be a little unhappy…..a little disgruntled at me for a short amount of time than to put all of us into misery by making them happy temporarily.
Remember sometimes you got to look for the greater good and the greater goal as opposed to quick gratification.
When in doubt just follow this-
DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY
